The Basics of Walking in the Christian Life

NOTE: This vast information was gathered & accumulated over years, thru reading various material & setting under godly men. I do not take credit for this tool that has helped me, I can only take credit for gathering it together in a way that is beneficial to me & I hope others. I do not wish to plagiarize anyone’s individual work, but I am unable to express proper citation due to gathering various notes & scraps of paper from my own study that I have accumulated over the years. I am grateful for all those who have allowed God to use them to help use become better witnesses to the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ.

The Basics of Walking in the Christian Life

2 Timothy 2:1-2 my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus.
2 The things which you have heard from me in the presence of many witnesses,
entrust these to faithful men who will be able to teach others also.

A Christian has Invited Jesus to be Lord of their Life

Admit you have sinned against God

Romans 3:10  THERE IS NONE RIGHTEOUS, NOT EVEN ONE

Romans 3:23 All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God

Believe Jesus Christ Died on the Cross to save you from your Sin

Jesus lived a the perfect sinless life Jesus we could not live & in our place died the death we could not die for our sins as a Sacrifice before God in our stead.

Romans 5:8God demonstrates His own love toward us,
in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.

Romans 6:23
For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Confess Jesus Christ as the Lord of your Life

Romans 10:9
If you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him        from the dead, you will be saved

            Acknowledge your sin -

            “I have sinned against God”

            Confess your sin -

This isn’t telling God what He already knows, but admitting He was right all along

Repent of your sin
“Turn to God & from your sin”

LORD---Lordship of Christ---Jesus Christ’s authority to rule your life as a Christian

SAVIOR---Deliverer, preserver---Jesus Christ’s life given to deliver humanity from the wrath of God

            Romans 10:13
WHOEVER WILL CALL ON THE NAME OF THE LORD WILL BE SAVED.

Prayer of Commitment

Lord Jesus, I am a sinner in need of forgiveness
I am sorry for breaking Your Law and my disobedience
Thank You for dying on the Cross and being raised from the dead to make my Salvation possible
I do invite You into my life to be Lord and Savior
Amen

A Christian is sure of their Relationship with Jesus

John 10:27-30 27 "My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me; 28 and I give eternal life to them, and they will never perish; and no one will snatch them out of My hand. 29 "My Father, who has given them to Me, is greater than all; and no one is able to snatch them out of the Father's hand. 30 "I and the Father are one."

Romans 8:38-39 38 For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, 39 nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing, will be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

A Christian Reads & Studies the Bible

The Holy Scriptures of the Old & New Testament are the only safe & infallible revelation of God to man.  Thus, it is the infallible rule for a believer’s life & practice.

2 Timothy 3:16-17 16 All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness; 17 so that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work.

For teaching (Doctrine)……………………………..What is right in God’s eyes

For reproof (Conviction)…………………………….What is not right in God’s eyes

For correction (Discipline)…………………………..How to get it right in God’s eyes

For training in righteousness (Discipleship)………How to stay right in God’s eyes

A Christian is a Person who Prays

We are called out by God to be in an intimate relationship with Him. He is our Creator and Redeemer and we are called to communicate with him through prayer.  This prayer life is to be based in our love and devotion to God. A prayer is not to be done as a means to gain the approval of men, for that in itself is its own reward.  It is a life time means of communicating with our Lord.

Colossians 4:2 Devote yourselves to prayer
This is to be a constant activity
                                        Requires sacrifice

1 Thessalonians 5:17 Pray without ceasing
This is to be based upon an ongoing relationship

Matthew 6:9-13 The Lord’s Prayer – A Primer for Prayer

The Lord’s Prayer, more appropriately called the Disciple’s Prayer, though it may be memorized,
it is an outline of how we are to communicate with our God.

A Christian is to be Baptized

Baptism is an act of obedience symbolizing the believer's faith in a crucified, buried, and risen Savior, the believer's death to sin, the burial of the old life, and the resurrection to walk in newness of life in Christ Jesus. It is a testimony to a believer’s faith in the final resurrection of the dead. Being a church ordinance, it is prerequisite to the privileges of church membership and to the Lord's Supper. (Baptist Faith and Message 2000)

Jesus at the beginning of his earthly ministry set the example of baptism in His own life (Mark 1:9) and commanded baptism as He ascended to heaven (Matthew 28:18-20)

Baptism does not save you; it is an outward expression of an inward change of the heart through faith in Christ Jesus as Lord and Savior. Only your faith in Jesus brings salvation.

Baptism doesn’t make you a believer—it shows that you already believe.

As soon as you have decided to receive Jesus into your life, you can and should be baptized. If you attempt to wait until you are “perfect,” you’ll never feel “good enough.”

A Christian Attends Church

The Church, of which Jesus is the Head (Colossians 1:18), is the only institution Jesus promised to build (Matthew 16:16-18) and empowered by the Holy Spirit (Acts 2:1-4) to make an eternal impact upon the World.

The writer of Hebrews explains we are not to forsake going to church (Hebrew 10:25). Going to church is an indication to all that we have passed from death into eternal life because we love the people of God (1 John 3:14).

A Christian Worships

“To worship God is to ascribe the proper worth to God, to magnify His worthiness of praise, or better, to approach and address God as He is Worthy.” Donald S. Whitney

Worship is about being God-centered, or preoccupied by God.

Matthew 22:37-38 You shall Love the LORD your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the Great and foremost commandment.

Worship is to be done both corporately with the Church & privately in the Home.

A Christian Serves Jesus by Witnessing to the World

Matthew 28:19-20 19 "Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always , even to the end of the age."

Jesus commanded His people to go & tell the World that He loves them & died for them.
