Scriptures on Prayer
Luke 5:15-16
15 the news about [Jesus] was spreading even farther, and large crowds were gathering to hear Him and to be healed of their sicknesses. 16 But Jesus Himself would often slip away to the wilderness and pray.
Matthew 6:5-13
5 "When you pray, you are not to be like the hypocrites; for they love to stand and pray in the synagogues and on the street corners so that they may be seen by men. Truly I say to you, they have their reward in full.
6 "But
you, when you pray, go into your inner room, close your door
and pray to your Father who is in secret, and your Father who sees what is done in secret will reward
you. 7 "And when you are
praying, do not use meaningless repetition as the Gentiles do, for they
suppose that they will be heard for their many words.
8 "So do not be like them; for your Father knows what you need before you ask Him.
9 "Pray,
then, in this way:
'Our Father who is in heaven, Hallowed be Your
name.
10 'Your kingdom
come. Your will be done, On earth as it is in heaven.
11 'Give us this
day our daily bread.
12 'And forgive
us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors.
13 'And do not
lead us into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.'
1 John 5:11-15
11 the testimony
is this, that God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His
Son.
12 He who has the Son has the life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have the life. 13 These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, so that you may know that you have eternal life.
14 This is the confidence which we have before Him, that, if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. 15 And if we know that He hears us in whatever we ask, we know that we have the requests which we have asked from Him.
Romans 8:26-28
26 the Spirit also helps our weakness; for we do not know how to pray as we should, but the Spirit Himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words; 27 and [God the Father] who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit is, because [the Spirit] intercedes for the saints according to the will of God. 28 And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God,
Philippians 4:4-7
4 Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, rejoice! 5 Let your gentle spirit be known to all men. The Lord is near.
6 Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.
7 And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
James 5:14-18
14 Is anyone among you sick? Then he must call for the elders of the church and they are to pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord; 15 and the prayer offered in faith will restore the one who is sick, and the Lord will raise him up, and if he has committed sins, they will be forgiven him. 16 Therefore, confess your sins to one another, and pray for one another so that you may be healed. The effective prayer of a righteous man can accomplish much.
17 Elijah
was a man with a nature like ours, and he prayed earnestly that
it would not rain, and it did not rain on the earth for three years and six
months. 18 Then he prayed
again, and the sky poured rain and the earth produced its fruit.
