Helpful Tools: Age of Abraham and Key People of Genesis Chapters 12-25

As we read through the lives of key people of our theological and historical heritage as Believers in the Gospel of Jesus Christ found in the Bible, we often try to keep up with their ages and or the spans of time from one event to the next.

Below you will find what I hope will be a helpful tool for you keep a better grasp of the passing of time as it relates to Abraham, Sarah, Ishmael and Isaac found in the historical event of Genesis chapters 12-25.

Establishing Ages

When a specific verse is not noted, ages of an individuals are approximate to ages of others

• Abraham’s age established in Genesis 12:4 -- 75 years old
  
  
• Sarah’s age established in Genesis 17;17 -- 90 years old
• Sarah was approximately 10 years younger than Abraham 
       Genesis 17:1 Abraham was 99 years old
       Genesis 17:17 Sarah 90 years old
  
  
• Ishmael’s age established in Genesis 17:25 – 13 years old
• Ishmael was 13 and Abraham was 99 when they were circumcised
  
  
• Isaac’s age established in Genesis 21:5 – Birth
• Isaac was born when Abraham was 100 years old

• Genesis 16   ç   Approximately 13 Years  è   Genesis 17
• Genesis 17   ç   Approximately 1 year      è   Genesis 21
